Permitting Services

The Johnson Company’s multidisciplinary staff helps clients navigate and comply with the permit requirements of local, state, and Federal environmental and land use regulations, as well as National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews.

We combine the skills of our engineers and environmental scientists to manage the permit process. We work in collaboration with regulators to screen a project for potential permit requirements early in the planning and design stage to minimize surprises and costs. Working backwards from the desired completion date, we develop and provide to clients a schedule showing deadlines, information requirements for each permit, and a proposed timeline for the regulatory review, public notice, and public hearings for each permit. We attend public hearings and presentations for our clients, advocating for and supporting the technical aspects of an application.

Our experience has helped clients obtain permits dealing with:

  • land use and zoning
  • air and water quality
  • groundwater
  • water supply and wastewater disposal
  • rare, threatened and endangered species
  • significant habitats
  • wetland delineation and functional analysis
  • prime agricultural soils
  • special resource designations such as floodways, wild and scenic rivers, and wilderness areas
  • historical and archaeological resources, and
  • traffic.
