Remediation: Feasibility, Design, and Implementation

The Johnson Company has designed and implemented remediation strategies on local, national and international sites for over 20 years and has significant experience in all stages of the remediation process.

Our engineers and scientists, using field tested strategies, design and implement successful remediation systems for many types of media and contaminants, including soil, soil vapor, sediments, groundwater, surface water and air contaminated by metals, PCBs, chlorinated solvents, coal tar, and petroleum.  Our teams bring a comprehensive understanding of the physical and chemical processes that govern fate and transport, and the risks that the contaminants pose to humans and the environment.  We work with clients to develop a strategy that takes into account public acceptance, regulatory compliance, future uses for the property, and the cost-benefits of alternatives.

We design and provide engineering services during construction for these active remedial technologies:

  • Pump-and-treat
  • Soil vapor extraction and air sparging
  • In-situ bioremediation
  • Ultraviolet/chemical oxidation treatment
  • Solidification and encapsulation
  • Containment/capping
  • Passive and active NAPL recovery
  • Dredging and Excavation
  • Activated carbon absorption (air and water)
  • Air stripping
  • Hydraulic Controls
  • Monitored Natural Attenuation
  • Reactive Barriers, and
  • Asphalt Batching.
Our experience also includes operating and maintaining many types of active and passive remediation systems.  In many treatment systems we have designed, operational parameters are remotely monitored requiring fewer site visits.  Our in-house programming capability allows modification of operational system data collection as conditions change, and provides alarm routines that are initiated by changing conditions.
